Background:

In recent years, the rapid urbanization and the emergence of smart cities have created a pressing need for advanced communication technologies. Smart cities are defined by their innovative use of technology to enhance urban living, improve sustainability, and optimize resource management. Futuristic communication technologies play a pivotal role in achieving these goals. These technologies, such as 5G, IoT, edge computing, and AI-driven solutions, have the potential to revolutionise the way cities operate. However, there is a need for focused research to harness their full potential, ensuring security, scalability, and seamless integration. This special issue aims to bridge this gap by gathering and disseminating cutting-edge research in the domain.

Importance for a Smarter World:

Smart cities hold the promise of improving the quality of life for millions while reducing environmental impact. They can enhance transportation, healthcare, security, energy efficiency, and more. Futuristic communication technologies are the backbone of smart cities, enabling real-time data collection, analysis, and decision-making. By facilitating seamless connectivity among devices and systems, they empower cities to become more efficient, responsive, and sustainable.

Objective of Special Issue:

The prime objective of this proposed Special Issue is to present new advancements on theories, systems, methods, algorithms, and applications of Futuristic Communication Technologies for Smart Cities. It will explore novel ideas and research in line with  the recent developments in the smart cities domain. Unpublished, novel research work describing advanced prototypes, systems, tools and techniques as well as general survey papers indicating future directions are also encouraged. The purpose of this Special Issue is to provide a unique venue for young researchers, engineers, and practitioners to submit their recent research findings concerning the advances and emerging applications of communication technologies in smart cities discipline.

This special issue will provide a platform for researchers and practitioners to share insights, innovations, and best practices, contributing to the advancement of communication technologies in building smarter, more sustainable cities.
