Abstract

In order to examine the impact of admixtureamount on the heavy metalsolidification/stabilization effect of MagnesiumPotassium Phosphate cement (MKPC), industrialdusts, iron ore tailings and slag were added intoMagnesium Potassium Phosphate containing 5g/kgof heavy metals at the ratios of 0, 5%, 10%, 20%and 30% respectively. Mixtures were firstlyconserved for 1d, 7d, 15d and 28d respectively atconditions of 20±1? and humidity ?95%. Then,Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure(TCLP) method was adopted to measure theleaching concentrations of solidified heavy metalions, and to examine the impact of admixtures onMKPC solidified heavy metals. The results showedthat admixtures at the ratio of 30% would reducethe strength of solidified heavy metals byapproximately 70%, while extension ofconservation time would improve the strength so asto meet the requirements of landfill processing. After conserving the samples containing 30% ofadmixtures for 28d, the ion concentration of Zn,Cu and Pb detected by TCLP method were lowerthan the TCLP standard regulated by the USEnvironmental Protection Agency (EPA). It showsthat MKPC can be mixed with an appropriateamount of admixtures and conserved for a certainperiod of time before heavy metalsolidification/stabilization.
